Orkney is getting ready for an incredible summer as it prepares to host the Orkney 2025 International Island Games from 12–18 July 2025. It’s such an honour for our islands to welcome this amazing event right here at home, with athletes and supporters travelling from island communities across the world to share in sport, culture, and friendship. The sense of anticipation is already building, and I can’t wait to see our community come together to give everyone a true Orcadian welcome. It promises to be an unforgettable week for Orkney and all who visit.

As a volunteer on the medal ceremonies team, raising flags and helping to celebrate the achievements of the athletes, I’m absolutely delighted and proud to support the Orkney 2025 Island Games. It feels so special to play a part in honouring the athletes’ hard work and success while giving them a warm Orcadian welcome. I’m also proud that Alison Moore Designs is a peedie sponsor of the games.
There will be over 2,000 competitors and officials from up to 24 island groups around the world, competing across 12 sports; from archery, athletics, and badminton to sailing, squash, swimming, and triathlon. With events happening all across the Orkney mainland, there will be plenty of opportunities to soak up the excitement and cheer on these talented competitors.
One of the highlights for me is seeing local craft at the heart of the Games, with fellow Orkney jeweller Sheila Fleet designing and making the beautiful medals. They’ll be treasured by the athletes, capturing not just their achievements but a piece of Orkney’s heritage too.
If you’re visiting for the Games, why not explore more of what makes Orkney special? I’d love to welcome you to my shops in Stromness and Kirkwall. Our Stromness shop offers a carefully curated selection of jewellery alongside a range of beautiful gifts from talented Scottish makers. In Kirkwall, our store on Albert Street will even be offering late-night shopping during the Games, so you can pop in after a day of sporting action and discover jewellery inspired by Orkney’s wild seas, skies, and landscapes, as well as unique Scottish-crafted treasures. And if you’re feeling creative, why not book in for a jewellery-making workshop and experience the magic of making your own piece of Orkney-inspired jewellery?
Discover our handy guides for Stromness and Kirkwall, where we’ve shared our favourite local spots, hidden gems, and ideas for things to see and do. Whether you’re looking for a great coffee, a scenic walk, or a place to relax, these guides will help you make the most of your time here.
Whether you’re competing, coaching, supporting your team, or simply enjoying the festival atmosphere, please come by and say hello. It’s a wonderful time for our community, and I’d love to share a bit of Orkney’s creative spirit with you while you’re here.
