June Birthstone Jewellery - Moonstone or Alexandrite
As its name suggests, shimmering moonstone has a lunar quality about it, one which led the Romans to believe it was formed from moonbeams.
We could explain the scientific reasons for this gemstone’s captivating appearance, but we actually quite like the moonbeam theory and will just leave it at there.
We’re also aware that pearl is more commonly listed as the June birthstone, which is great, but in Orkney we love our fabulous moonlit skies, so we’ve gone for the moonstone alternative as favoured in Scandinavia.
Given its nature – it’s a gem that’s just over midway up the official hardness scale – moonstone requires a little bit of extra care, which we’re sure you’ll give it.
