August Birthstone Jewellery

August’s birthstone is peridot – symbolising positive energy and radiating serenity. The ancient Egyptians reckoned the gemstone harnessed the power of nature, and its earthy green shade makes it easy to see why.

Unsurprisingly perhaps, peridots have often been confused with emeralds throughout history, but if you were to look at the two gems side by side, you’d probably spot the difference. 

They’re both different shades of green – trust us, we’re green experts living here in Orkney where we have this colour in abundance – and while emerald gives off a regal vibe, peridot feels grounding. Plus, it’s that little bit more affordable too.
