January - Garnet

A symbol of eternal love and thought to possess protective and healing powers, garnets have been used in jewellery for thousands of years.

The name garnet comes from the Latin ‘granatus’ (grain), reflecting the pomegranate seed colouring of the gem’s pyrope variety.

Although garnets are best known in this deep red form, they’re actually found in a range of striking colours, including pink, peach, orange, yellow, purple, brown and green. There are also black and colourless stones.

The ancient Greeks, Egyptians and Romans prized good quality garnets and so do we, selecting only the finest examples for our January birthstone collection.
