Northern Lights Gallery Algal Art Exhibition
Much of Alison's work is inspired by the natural world, and her love of the algal world is celebrated through her seaweed pressings.
Alison is delighted to join seven artists in a new exhibition of algal art in Stromness gallery Northlight. Her stunning seaweed pressings will be on display between 12 - 23 August, and is open to all.
Her artwork will share a space with other seaweed loving artists; Ingrid Budge, Magdalena Choluj, Rebecca Marr, Alison Moore, Ami Robb, Dawn Stevens and Sarah Wylie and will feature a range of photography, sculptures, pressings and drawings.
Rebecca, who invited Alison to exhibit, said ‘It is wonderful to be sharing the space together and sharing our love of seaweed. It’s everywhere, it’s everyday but somehow otherworldly and strange. I think the artists play with that strangeness and encourage the viewer to really take in the beauty of seaweed.
Inspired by the Edwardian seaweed collection in Stromness Museum, Alison taught herself how to press specimens sustainably gathered on her diving expeditions. Alison went on to explore ways of creating wearable versions of these pressings, with carefully selected dendritic agates offering her the perfect opportunity to unite her beloved worlds of sea and stone in jewellery. Orkney County Show
The Orkney Country Show is always a date in the summer calendar that the AMD team look forward to. It's a lovely opportunity to display a range of jewellery and homewares and showcase them at such a renowned event in Orkney, whilst meeting visitors from near and far.
You can find the AMD team in the craft tent at the show, on 12th August between 9am - 5pm - they would love to see you there.
